Lawmakers Return to Traditional Budget Process
(IRN)-It's another week of legislating in Springfield, and budget talks are becoming serious.

Governor Pat Quinn is hopeful that lawmakers will go along with his overall plan that includes restructuring the state's debt, saving taxpayers money by refinancing at a lower interest rate.

This year lawmakers are taking the lead in crafting the state's budget, rather than leaving the governor to decide where to spend the state's money. The budget in the House is smaller then what Quinn has proposed. He continues to warn legislators that he won't accept drastic cuts to education, healthcare or public safety.

"I have said and I will keep saying it; severe, radical cuts in education and in decent health care and in human services and public safety, I'm not going along with that," Quinn said.
