Quinn Appoints New Chief of IL Prisons
CHICAGO (AP) -- Gov. Pat Quinn has appointed the executive director of the Cook County Sheriff's Department of Corrections to head the state's Department of Corrections.

Quinn announced Monday that Salvador "Tony" Godinez would take the job permanently. He replaces acting director Gladyse Taylor. Taylor was named the $112,800 acting director of Corrections in September when Michael Randle resigned.

Before Randle resigned a report found the Department of Corrections failed to consider possible dangers to the public when it granted early release to prisoners, some of whom were violent. The program was an effort to save money.

Godinez has worked in the correctional system for 37 years. He was a warden of Stateville Correctional Center and is a former chief of operations and chief of staff at state Department of Corrections.
