Knoxville Economic Development Committee Still Trying
There's still one problem plaguing the City of Knoxville's economic development efforts: not enough people to help get a program off the ground.

The city's Community and Economic Development Steering Committee met Monday night -- a small group still needing people to participate in sub-committees, and be chairs in them.

Knoxville native Carrie McKillip with the Knox County University of Illinois Extension office is helping the city with this, and tells WGIL she believes people are interested.

"Knoxville really showed us with the [community] survey results last summer that they care," McKillip said. "Now we want to get people out and take a few hours of their time every month and really get some things done."

McKillip also suggested the committee start making use of Facebook and church bulletins to solicit help from residents, and for promotion of their upcoming slate of activities and needs, including a Memorial Day bike parade, a senior health fair, volunteer opportunities, and other means.

Alderman Jim Eastwood, the committee's chair, expressed continued frustration at getting people involved.
