Rock Island Prosecutor Resigns, Pleads Guilty
ROCK ISLAND, Ill. (AP) -- Rock Island state's attorney Jeff Terronez has pleaded guilty to providing alcohol to a minor a day after he said he would resign his post.

WQAD-TV in Moline reports that Terronez entered the plea Tuesday in Rock Island County Court to the misdemeanor charge. Terronez was sentenced to two years probation and fined $2,500. His plea conditions include he resign and never again seek public office.

He tells reporters he is "ashamed" of his priorities. On Monday the Illinois attorney general's office requested Terronez's resignation.

Terronez also has forfeited his pension by withdrawing from the Illinois Municipal Retirement Fund.

The Rock Island County board will appoint a replacement for Terronez.

The Illinois State Police have been investigating Terronez for several months. He has been state's attorney since 2004.
