April is Child Abuse Prevention Month
The month of April is all about preventing child abuse.

The Blue Ribbon Task Force of Knox County is putting events together all month to remind people what to look for and what to do if they suspect a child is being abused.

Julie with Safe Harbor Family Crisis Center, a member of the task force, tells WGIL abuse can happen anytime and does happen anywhere.

"Child abuse is out there it is present in our community. Last year just in Knox County 199 children were confirmed victims of child abuse, which that number is actually down a little bit from the year before so that's a good thing, but our goal with the Blue Ribbon Task Force is just to get the word out there, to let people know this is a problem in our community, let people know the signs, and what to do if they see it."

Child abuse doesn't just affect young children, but young adults up to age 21.

The task force is hosting a poster contest which can be viewed the Galesburg Public Library, blue ribbons will be place along main streets in surrounding communities, and Hands Around the Courthouse will occur April 27th at the Knox County Courthouse.
