IL Legislative Group to Focus on Diabetes
SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (AP) -- Illinois lawmakers are forming a group to focus attention on diabetes and the need for better prevention and treatment.

The "diabetes caucus" includes House and Senate members from both parties. Their goals include passing legislation that could help people with diabetes and promoting programs to educate people about the disease.

Democratic Sen. Tony Munoz says "diabetes care is central to the public and economic health" of Illinois.

Republican Representative Mike Tryon says his Type II diabetes has been life-changing.

Officials say almost 10 percent of Illinois residents suffer from diabetes. It has been estimated that one of every three children born after the year 2000 will be affected.
