AG Rules School District Must Release Settlements
BLOOMINGTON, Ill. (AP) -- The Illinois attorney general's office has ruled a Normal school district must release settlement agreements reached with two victims of teacher sexual abuse.

The Pantagraph reports Wednesday that the newspaper asked the attorney general's office to review Unit 5's refusal to release the documents. The newspaper requested them under the Freedom of Information Act.

Former teacher Jon White is serving 60 years in prison for molesting two girls in Unit 5 and the nine in Urbana.

The settlements show one child will receive $100,000 and the other $105,000 to end claims against Unit 5 and current and former staffers, which admit no liability for
White's conduct.

The newspaper's attorney applauded the attorney general's opinion. The district's attorney said it didn't agree with the decision and student privacy should be protected.
