Illinois Taps New Managed Care Plans for Workers
SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (AP) -- Illinois has selected four managed care organizations to provide health benefits to about 270,000 state workers, dependents and retirees.

The Illinois Department of Healthcare and Family Services announced the contracts Wednesday. Officials estimate they'll save approximately $102 million in fiscal year 2012.

Two BlueCross BlueShield HMO plans were chosen. St. Louis-based HealthLink and Champaign-based PersonalCare were tapped to run open access plans with higher-tier options.

The state is dropping managed care plans offered by Health Alliance, Humana and Personal Care when those contracts expire June 30.

Officials say members can continue with their current doctors, although for some it will be through a different health plan.

Members will get information on steps they must take if they're covered through
an existing plan that's being replaced.
