| Spoon River College Names Next President |
The Spoon River College Board of Trustees have approved the selection of their eighth president in school history. Curtis Oldfield was officially introduced as the one to replace the retiring Doctor Robert Ritschel Tuesday during three separate Spoon River campus tours. Oldfield is the first president at Spoon River to have attended community college there. He says that didn't necessarily mean he had the upper hand among five other candidates for the job.
"It was a very interesting and enlightening process, being an alumni of Spoon River College, you know so much about the college, but it's amazing to see how much has changed in the six years that I was away," Oldfield said. "So it was great to be able to reconnect with folks and understand the important initiatives of each community and be able to be involved with the growth and development of west-central Illinois."
Oldfield is the former Dean of Instruction at Spoon River College. He will be leaving his current post as the Vice President of Academic Affairs at Northeast Iowa Community College to take on his new responsibilities July First. Oldfield says he's most proud of the connection to business and industry at Northeast Iowa. He says he intends to implement that same focus across all Spoon River satellite centers and campuses in the five county area. The Board of Trustees is scheduled to sign off on Oldfield's new contract later this month.
