Overpass Project Remains Ahead of Schedule
Construction of Galesburg's first overpass is about halfway complete, and work remains ahead of schedule.

If all goes well, City Engineer Wayne Carl tells the WGIL Morning News West Main Street could re-open earlier than expected.

"If we got things done ahead of time and stayed on schedule we would open it up ahead of time," Carl said. "We're not locked into this September 26th date. If it gets done sooner than that we'll get it open it up sooner than that."

"Right now I would say that we're still on schedule for that date, even though the consolidation went much faster, you don't know what's up ahead, what other obstacles there may be in getting the bridge completed."

Carl says the West side wall is completely up, and the east side one should be finished this week. He says two settlement platforms on the east side should shift an estimated six inches by next month.

According to Carl, crews will soon be reconfiguring the intersection at Academy and Main Streets, and in less than two weeks, will begin constructing the bridge itself.

There will be a public hearing on the city's next overpass project on Kellogg and Seminary Street Tuesday night from 4 to 7 PM at City Hall.
