District-217 and Bridgeway Teaming Up for Intervention Program
The Abingdon school district is partnering with Bridgeway to implement an intervention service beneficial to students who've made poor choices when it comes to alcohol and drugs.

It's called the Insight Program, and District-217 Superintendent David Black says he's recognized its success in the Galesburg school district. He feels it could be just as valuable to Abingdon students.

"The early intervention is an evaluation screening, a very thorough screening," Black said. "(There's a) a pretest, they talk about what happened twelve hours before, general information. They deal a lot with referral for treatment for family communication, parenting styles-- (they) work with the parents as well."

"This looks like a nice option."

Black says the district would pay Bridgeway $125-dollars per case, and it would only be offered to first time offenders. He says a student who agrees to participate in the Insight Program will have an ten-day suspension cut in half.

According to Black, it's a preventative and proactive measure, that only concerns a small number of students each year.
