Monmouth Business in the National Top 5
A Monmouth woman's share of a half-million votes cast keeps her in the final stages of a national competition.

The National Retail Federation says Market Alley Wines and owner Susan Kaufman are in the top 5 in the group's "This is Retail" online video competition.

She and four others made the final cut announced Monday. The top three vote-getters now in voting that starts Tuesday will be flown to Washington for a Leadership conference later this year, and will win a cash prize.

Kaufman is the only Illinois business to make it. The other four in no particular order are a running store in Maryland, a store in Hawaii, and stores in South Carolina and Florida.

Kaufman, who closed her shop for a few days this week in order to take a vacation, says in a press release that despite going up against big businesses in big cities, she believes her business has an advantage, thanks to all the Midwesterners who supported her.

The National Retail Federation started the competition in January in order to promote retail as a career choice.

Voting lasts through Sunday at "Retailmeansjobs.com," and the final winners will be announced May first.
