City Council to Get Look at Quiet Zone Plans Monday
Monday night's Galesburg City Council meeting could be dominated by talk of quiet zones.

The Galesburg City Council Monday night will get looks at three ordinances that would close parts of several streets in town -- most around the area of Burlington Northern Santa Fe rail crossings in those areas.

Among the areas being considered are parts of Pearl, West, Cherry, Kellogg, and North Streets.

Those are most of the areas the city has targeted for years under the federal quiet zone program.

If approved, federal money could be made available to help them close, meaning trains would not need to blow their horns when going through those areas, mostly along the Chilicothe subdivision.

Burlington Northern Santa Fe has also pledged to help as well.

Aldermen will also hear about an IDOT upgrade project when they meet at 6:30pm Monday inside Council Chambers at Galesburg City Hall.
