Commission Makes Alterations to Lake Storey Pavilion Liquor Proposal
The City of Galesburg's Liquor Advisory Commission will get one more chance to look over a proposal to allow alcohol sales during special events at Lake Storey Pavilion next month -- assuming they can get a quorum.

The commission held its second meeting in as many months Tuesday without enough members to take formal action on anything. But they did do some tweaking on the proposal, including allowing sales of keg beer at special events, and further discussed having off-duty Galesburg police officers conduct security, and even considered closing the pavilion at midnight instead of 11 pm, with alcohol sales stopping one-hour before.

But Galesburg Mayor Sal Garza says he remains steadfast in only allowing beer and wine sales, for now.

"Let's start there, and then if we start getting an overwhelming response or request to allow hard liquor then we can look at that," Garza said. "But right now, we just want to establish a base."

The commission also talked of only allowing properly-licensed caterers to sell beer and wine, and that they wouldn't want it to be taken off the second floor of the Pavilion.

The Commission meets again May 14th, and the proposal could be before aldermen by their last meeting in May.
