Woman Killed When Struck by Train
A Galesburg woman is dead after police say she intentionally was struck by a train early Sunday.

Galesburg Police reports indicate officers were called to the area of the crossing near North and Silver Streets just after midnight Sunday morning.

Police believe 38-year old Christine Metelka was struck by a train in that area. Knox County Coroner Mark Thomas pronounced the woman dead at the scene.

Authorities believe Metelka purposely walked out in front of the freight train that was traveling under 30 miles per hour when the impact occurred.

While emergency brakes were used on the train, police say Metelka's body was found underneath the train's 10th car, about half-way down the train.

Police say they were called to Metelka's Chestnut Street residence earlier in the evening Saturday for a domestic trouble report, and believes the death may have been related to that.
