Sentencing Will Continue for Alleged Robbery Accomplice
A Galesburg teenager who's pleaded guilty to having a role in a robbery and shooting last year is being characterized as being a loving kid that got involved with the wrong crowd.

The sentencing hearing for 18-year old Tyrone Haywood started Wednesday in Knox County Circuit Court. He's already pleaded guilty to a charge of Armed Robbery with other charges being withdrawn as part of a plea deal.

Haywood and 18-year old Devonta Parker allegedly broke into a car parked in a Monmouth Boulevard Apartment Building in July of last year. Parker allegedly shot 22-year old Jordan Allen, while prosecutors say Haywood broke out a car window.

Allen testified Wednesday that he still suffers pain and other effects of the shooting incident last year. He spent nearly a month in a Peoria hospital suffering from a collapsed lung and had some form of heart bypass surgery.

Haywood's friends and family characterized him as loving and serious about going back to high school to get a diploma. His mother Cynthia, though, admitted that she thought her son is more humble now than before, and will have a job at a company in Seattle operated by another family member if he weren't facing the possibility of a prison sentence.

Defense attorney Kim Norton presented a host of character witnesses that all backed up Haywood being a good kid who did an otherwise bad thing.

The sentencing hearing will continue Friday afternoon at 1:30. Parker, meanwhile is already serving a 15-year prison sentence for his role.
