Work on a Golf Package to Galesburg Continues
Plans continue to progress to try and convince golfers from the Chicago area to come down to Galesburg to hit the links.

The Knox County Tourism Council recently learned that a tentative date of around September 21st is set for the golf package the council is working on -- which would include access to several local golf courses, accommodations, and some transportation and meal needs.

Tourism Council member Bill Butts says a lot of research and planning is still being done, even if it means there are some hang-ups along the way.

"This is kind of duck-tailing everything together, (this) is the biggest problem," Butts said. "Plus we have a very busy community and we have to be mindful of the hotels and our facilities here, as far as when they will become available."

"So all of these things are factoring into our decisions and I think we're getting close to putting a final product together. We have a few other things to iron out."

Galesburg Mayor Sal Garza offered his help in trying to get Amtrak to work with the tourism council, which could range from discounted train fare to door prizes like free train tickets.

It was also suggested by Garza that Knox College be approached, possibly so that parents of Knox students could be sold the package, too, as a way to golf and see their children.
