Knoxville School Board Agrees to Terms with Architect for New High School
The District-202 Board of Education has come to terms with the firm responsible for designing a new Knoxville High School.

Monday night the board followed through with Superintendent Steve Wilder's recommendation to approve paying BLDD just over $2 million dollars.

Design discussions resumed several weeks ago, but as Wilder explains, there's been one particular snag in negotiating compensation for the Bloomington-based architect.

"They use a percentage of the overall cost of the project to determine their fee structure," Wilder said. "So one of the challenges that BLDD faced was identifying a cost of the project."

"A lot of it still to be decided-- the final design, the cost of the materials, and so on. So there is a lot that is unknown."

That percentage agreed upon is 7.8% of $26 million dollars-- which includes basic services and additional consultation. Wilder says the board can be flexible in determining how to best utilize those extra services.

The board Monday night also signed an intergovernmental agreement with the capital development board. This will secure over $20-million dollars in capital funds for the high school project. It's expected to be completed in the fall of 2014.
