Mayor Says TIF Plans for CSC Housing Have Been Public Knowledge
Galesburg's city leader isn't exactly sure why District-205 officials are just now opposing the city's proposed redevelopment plan for the land student housing for Carl Sandburg College is being built on.

Mayor Sal Garza does admit their criticism of the Joint Review Board not reviewing the Tax Increment Financing District prior to construction is fair.

But he says there's been plenty of opportunities for community input on what's been a plan for the project from the beginning. Plus, he tells WGIL he's not a hard man to reach.

"I'm always and have always been available if they had a concern on the front end of this project. even before any agreements were arrived at, it was public knowledge," Garza said. "And if there was a concern or a consideration that needed to be incorporated, I've always been accessible in that regard."

Garza says he appreciates the Galesburg school district's concern, and encourages them to come forward with any further ones the moment they arise.

The Joint Review Board will issue an advisory vote on the redevelopment plan Wednesday-- which will eventually go before the city council.

A ribbon cutting ceremony was held Tuesday on the site of the former Regency Hotel as work on "The Villas" continues. The 144-bed complex will open in August.
