Text Messages Focus of School Assembly
The dangers of text messaging while driving will be the focus of a special presentation Friday at Abingdon High School.

A similar presentation last year was rained out, but students at AHS say this year, the presentation will take place at the school this year Friday morning at 8:30.

Senior Chase Polling tells the WGIL Morning News some pretty basic, but crucially important, things will be discussed this year.

"What were going to be doing is basically going over safety things, the safety aspects of driving," Polling said. "(This) includes texting while driving, using your seat-belt, driving under the influence and other distractions. And basically the main proponents of this has been the student council."

It's part of Abingdon High School's "Project Prom" initiative. Polling says while he doesn't know of any specific problems involving AHS students, everyone has been shaken by accidents involving ROWVA High School Students.

He says it's better to make sure it doesn't happen, then have to react to such an incident when it does. State law bans texting while driving.

Abingdon High School's prom is Saturday.
