Area Jobless Rates Fall Again in March
Unemployment figures across the area have fallen again.

According to the March numbers released by the Illinois Department of Employment Security, not seasonally adjusted totals show the Galesburg-Area unemployment rate has dropped one-point-one percentage points to eight-percent. That total is a reflection of both the Knox and Warren County jobless counts. The eight-percent reveals a point-eight percent improvement to March of last year, and is the lowest rate for the area since March of 2008.

From February to March, Knox's jobless average dropped one-point-two percentage points to eight-point-three-percent. Warren's stands at seven-point-one-percent, a point-nine percentage slide from February. Warren County's average for last month is one full percentage point better than March of last year, while Knox County's standing improved by point-seven percent.

Other counties seeing significant unemployment decreases from month to month include Fulton County, from eleven-point-two to nine-point-six-percent, Mercer County from twelve-point-two to ten-point-one-percent, and Stark County from eleven to nine-point-three-percent. Henderson and Henry Counties also saw jobless claims dry up.

Government jobs saw the biggest decline, but Educational and Health Services the biggest climb in the Galesburg-Area. More than 142,000 private sector jobs have been added statewide since January 2010.
