Worker's Safety Highlighted Saturday
Remembering those who lost their lives or were injured on the job was the international headliner Saturday.

A Worker's Memorial Day cook-out was held locally at the East Galesburg Labor Hall. Galesburg-based The Falcon Safety Group CEO Jeff Pacheco testified before union members on the promotion of worker's safety.

He tells WGIL he's still haunted by the tragic deaths he's been around in the workplace and frequently finds himself reflecting upon them.

"When you step back it's always the prevent-able," he said. "What could I have done to prevent that incident from happening? "And there's a lot of reflection, and there's a lot of times that workers don't have the resources to fall back on in making the changes in the world-place."

S"o it's very hard to overcome that loss, or do anything about it."

More than sixty union workers of the Trades and Labor Assembly packed inside the former Raymond Marquith Elementary School.

Pacheco says he was happy to see the unions band together and celebrate the lives of those workers who've either perished or suffered other physical hardships.

Worker's Memorial Day has been observed internationally on April 28th since 1971.
