Local Growers Digest Plans for Food Hub
The communications lines are open to Knox County in becoming one of more than thirty counties participating in a central Illinois food hub.

Terra Brockman is the Executive Director of the Bloomington-based Edible Economy Project. She provided local growers with the backdrop to a working market at En Season Sunday night-- the home grown cafe at Galesburg's Sustainable Business Center.

Brockman tells WGIL collaboration, not competition, makes for a successful exchange of goods locally, or even regionally-- also known as a collective impact.

"And I think local food is really the ideal situation for collective impact, which is much more powerful than isolated impact," she said. And the fact that growing something in Galesburg that can be transported easily, or processed here, and then go all the way to Chicago, it can go over to St. Louis, (or) to Peoria-- it can go any number of places."

Brockman encouraged local growers and farmers Sunday night to stay connected to her project. She says community-based food systems can lead to economic recovery.

The Edible Economy Project was formed two years ago and is actively seeking USDA grants to improve it's logistics system and re-localize infrastructure.
