Monmouth Business in National Contest
A business owner in Monmouth says she's both excited and nervous now that she's found out she's in a national contest.

Susan Kaufman, a former newspaper reporter, owns Market Alley Wines in Monmouth, and is in a national contest hosted by the National Retail Federation called "This is Retail" -- where businesses were invited to submit a video telling about their business. People can now go on line to vote on it, possibly continuing to move it along in competition.

Kaufman tells WGIL she learned about the contest on WGIL.com, and says the idea for the video was simple.

"We tried to incorporate a lot of our customers, we have some very enthusiastic patrons and we wanted to get them speaking as candidly about our store as we could," Kaufman said. "So, you see a lot of them talking, and they're unrehearsed."

National Retail Federation Senior Vice President and Galesburg native Ellen Davis tells the WGIL Morning News that's kind of the point.

"There are incredible retail stories everywhere," she said. "The judges saw Sue's video, and they said this is such a great story, you can tell people are so excited when they visit that store."

"They have a great experience, and that's what retail's all about. It doesn't matter whether you're in Monmouth or New York City."

You can vote up to 10 times each day at retailmeansjobs.com with the top 20 videos eventually being reduced to the top 10, and further.
