Disabled Get Access to IL Movie Theatres, Including Galesburg
CHICAGO (AP) -- The Illinois attorney general has reached a settlement with the state's largest movie theater operator that will give access to films for those with hearing and vision disabilities.

Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan announced the settlement with Kansas City, Mo.-based AMC Theatres on Wednesday. The company will provide captioning services and audio-description technology at all of its Illinois movie theaters. That includes 460 movie screens.

Before the settlement 21 of the 246 movie theaters in Illinois offered closed captioning and ten offered audio description.

The settlement is the result of concerns brought to Madigan's office by the federally funded agency Equip for Equality. The agency acts as advocate for the disabled in Illinois.

AMC says it has worked with suppliers for the last several years to develop the needed technology.

Gaslesburg is home to an AMC Theatre, the Showplace 8, on Carl Sandburg Drive near the Knox County YMCA.
