Library Board Approves Deal with Attorney
A formal agreement has been drawn up between the Galesburg Public Library board and the attorney helping to acquire land for a new library.

The library board Thursday voted to approve a letter of understanding between the library board, its' new construction committee, and Barry Barash. Construction Committee chair Mike Kroll says he felt the already-approved agreement needed to be formalized.

Kroll says there are a number of caveats to Barash's pro bono work.

"He will not do anything unless instructed by us, he will not incur costs unless we have already received approval for those costs or unless there's something he can bring back back to the board for approval," Kroll said. "He will also will deal solely in those aspects of the process of handling legal matters of purchasing properties."

Kroll says Barash will also assist the board in making property offers, and dealing with other legal issues that may come up.

The library continues to explore purchasing 13 parcels of land in the area of the old Super 8 motel on West Main Street.

Library board members also approved changes to a number of policies from meeting room usage to spending authority without board approval.
