Camp for Developmentally Disabled Offers Summer Experience
A local non-for-profit organization is continuing an over a decade-long tradition of providing a summer camp experience for children with developmental disabilities.

Triumph Services, comprised of the Warren Achievement Center, Bridgeway, and KCCDD, is offering 5 through 21-year-olds the chance to participate in "Camp Kidz."

It runs from June 25th through August 2nd, and organizer Sherry Waite tells the WGIL Morning News it's not a camp where the kids just sit around.

"We have an arts and craft room, where they do hands-on arts activities," Waite said. "Twice a week they do swimming, which is a favorite for all the kids, and we walk them over to the Hawthorne Pool there. Once a week they go on a field trip to various areas-- the Orpheum Theatre and putt-putt golfing."

Waite says the cost of the camp is $300 dollars, and registration for that rate ends April 30th. An extended period for registration runs to May 15th, but with a $400 dollar camp fee attached.

She says it's open to all Knox, Warren, and Henderson County developmentally disabled kids currently enrolled in a school program. Twenty-two have already registered, and she says the optimum number is thirty-five campers.

Applications can be obtained by calling Triumph Services at (309) 734-3131.
