Work Planned at Lombard Middle School

It won't be torn down, but the Galesburg School District will soon officially begin work to ultimately replace what was once known as the "Zephyr Dome."

The Galesburg School Board's Buildings and Grounds Committee learned Monday night that the district will soon seek bids for the first phase of a construction project that will eventually see the building of new locker room and gym facilities on the Lombard Middle School campus.

But District-205 Assistant Superintendent for Finance and Operations, Paul Woehlke, says before that, some work on a special education classroom has to be done.  The plan is to finish it before the start of the next school year.

Woehlke says bids on that project are expected to be in June 19th, with a special meeting to be held soon thereafter so that work can begin. He says construction of the new locker room facilities will begin after that, with a shell of a building expected to be up by January.

The Galesburg School Board last night did approve a final year extension of a contract for food service with Aramark with a four-percent increase in price.

Members also approved hiring Wayne Krus as the new principal at King School in the next school year, replacing the resigning Renee' Wallace.

Krus is currently a principal in the Canton School District.
