Local Congressman Wants More Econimic Stimulus

A local Congressman says while it's well and good that economic stimulus checks are starting to go out, he in no way wants it to stop there.

17th District Congressman Phil Hare is again calling for more economic relief for taxpayers, and says he's glad to hear there's more being planned.

Speaking Thursday on a conference call with reporters, the Rock Island Democrat said there are plenty of things that need to be included in a new stimulus plan.  He specifically cited the expansion of unemployment benefits, food stamps, and trade adjustment assistance.

Hare says that's just short-term help for Americans, and more long-term investing in the country also needs to be done in the form of the infrastructure.

Hare says the easiest way to fund economic stimulus and infrastructure improvements is to stop funding the war in Iraq. He says the federal government is spending four-thousand dollars a second on the war, and that it just can't continue.
