Two Arrested for Alleged Drug Dealing at Local Tavern

Two Galesburg residents are charged with felonies after Galesburg Police say they were allegedly dealing drugs at a local bar.

Galesburg Police say officers and the Peoria Multi-County Drug Enforcement group conducted surveillance at the LaMesa bar on West Main Street last Thursday, after an undercover informant told investigators he or she could buy crack cocaine there.

Reports indicate at least two purchases of crack were made there, one last Tuesday, and one last Thursday, using the informant and specially-marked bills.

Police say they entered the establishment less than an hour after the second purchase, and arrested 34-year old Kenward Watkins, and 52-year old Ivory Justice.

Watkins faces two-felony counts of Delivery of a Controlled Substance, and is being held in the Knox County Jail on 10-thousand dollars bond pending a court appearance Friday.

Justice faces a charge of Possession of a Controlled Substance after he allegedly dropped a substance believed to be crack cocaine, and was found to be wanted on a Knox County Warrant on an Escape charge, along with a separate body attachment, and is jailed on five-thousand dollars bond.

Justice will be in court again June second for a preliminary hearing.
