Traffic Stop Nets Lots of Pot in Fulton County

Two men are being held after Fulton County deputies say they confiscated nearly a pound of marijuana following a traffic stop late Tuesday night near Canton.

Authorities say they pulled the vehicle over for speeding while patrolling Illinois Route 9 east of Canton. Police say in the vehicle were the driver, 22-year old Brandon Spahn, and a passenger, 26-year old Seth Murphy, both of Canton.

Police say both men had in their possession close to a pound of cannabis and are being charged with possession of 30 to 500 grams of the drug, and delivery or manufacture of cannabis. Spahn was also ticketed for speeding and arrested for possession of a controlled substance for allegedly having the painkiller oxycodone on him without a prescription. Murphy was also cited for unlawful transportation of alcohol.

The two men are lodged in the Fulton County Jail awaiting their first court appearances.
