Disciplinary Measures Against Two Knoxville Teachers

Details may never be publicly known, but one Knoxville school district teacher is out of a job, and another is without pay for awhile.

After a four-hour executive session Wednesday night believed to be covering a number of employment matters, the Knoxville School Board voted to suspend one employee without pay, with a letter of remediation to be drafted and given to the board next month. They also voted to enter into a settlement agreement with a second employee.

The names of both employees weren't disclosed, and District-202 Board President Gale Trulson says not much else will be either because the decisions and agreements were made in executive session.

Trulson did, however, describe the reasons for the two employment moves as, quote, "separate." While the information isn't known, one district teacher was seen leaving the closed session openly weeping, and hugging fellow teachers. It's not clear, however, if that can be connected in any way or not.

In other employment matters, the District-202 board voted to allow the newly-created position of Curriculum and Grant Director to be posted, and they voted to hire a teacher for the district's new pre-Kindergarten program starting in the fall.
