Holiday Means Changes in Services in Galesburg

The city of Galesburg is taking Monday to observe Memorial Day, which means a number of services will not be available until Tuesday.

Officials say City Hall is closed, the Galesburg Handivan will not operate and Galesburg Transit is also not operating Monday.

There is no refuse pick up in the city on Monday. Monday's route will be picked up on Tuesday, and as a result, all routes this week will be picked up one day later.

In addition, fire hydrant testing resumes in Galesburg on Tuesday.

The testing areas are North Seminary Street near OSF St. Mary Medical Center, Sumner Street, Willard Street and the Hawthorne Centre Complex.

City officials say the testing can stir up sediment in the water system and cause the appearance of rusty water.
