Local Volunteers Recognized

Two volunteers with two important Knox County organizations are being honored for doing something they both say more people should do: volunteer.

The Knox County Human Services Council yesterday honored Christina Diaz -- a volunteer with Safe Harbor Family Crisis Center, and Linda Lamm -- a volunteer with the Carl Sandburg College Adult Literacy coalition, as their Volunteers of the Year.

Lamm says everyone has something to offer, and with so many different agencies, there are many opportunities to volunteer.

Diaz encourages everyone to set aside a little time out of their busy schedules to get involved in something they are passionate about.

In nomination letters given to the Knox County Human Services Council, both Lamm and Diaz are praised for how much time and effort they put into their volunteer roles.

This week is National Volunteer Week.
