More Discussion on New Galesburg Water Plant

The Galesburg City Council tonight will once again be asked to cast a vote on work to be done at the city's planned new multi-million dollar water plant, but this time, the vote is expected to save taxpayers some money.

It comes just a couple of weeks after aldermen approved spending money for a staff member to supervise construction of the city's brand new nearly 18-million dollar water treatment plant south of Oquawka along the Mississippi River.

But in documents provided to the council prior to tonight's meeting, administrators say they weren't able to fill the position, so they would like the council to vote to hire engineering firm Bruner, Cooper, and Zuck to fill the position.

The City says the cost would be nearly two-hundred-thousand dollars, or, they say, about three-and-a-half percent less than the industry-standard 10-percent that is usually tacked on to that type of a project.

Aldermen tonight are also expected to approve B-C-Z for the designing of a water main loop for Logistics Park Galesburg.

Another engineer, Metzger-Johnson, is expected to be considered by the council tonight for the proposed remodeling of the second floor of the Galesburg Community Center.

Tonight's open City Council meeting will start at 6:45, with a work session relating to the Galesburg Police Department's Overhire Program, followed by the 7:30 regular session, all in council chambers at City Hall.
