Water Plant Construction Supervisor Says Problems are No Problem for Him

The engineering firm that will be responsible for overseeing the construction work of the new water treatment plant at the City of Galesburg's wells in Oquawka says it will be able to handle whatever problems may be brought its way.  The Galesburg City Council Monday approved Bruner, Cooper, and Zuck doing the work over the next two years, at a cost of nearly 190-thousand dollars.

Company president Steve Bruner was asked if there would be any sort of a worst-case scenario that might happen, and how his firm would handle it.  "When you have a concrete pour, you want to make sure all the rebar are in the correct position, the correct size," Bruner told aldermen.  "If our observer sees something wrong...for instance, the superintendent says 'that's alright, we don't need to correct that,' then we don't pull our punches.  At that point, we contact (Galesburg Public Works Director) Larry (Cox) and say this is an obvious error, and needs to be corrected before the contract goes any further."

Several alderman said they were glad to hear Bruner say that, and the vote to hire Bruner's firm was unanimous.

Bruner, Cooper, and Zuck was also hired to do engineering and design work on a loop to the city's water mains on the southeast section of town in order to provide water service to Logistics Park Galesburg.  That means another 20-thousand dollars for Bruner's firm.
