May 1st is National Day of Prayer

Simply put, officials in the local ministry say there's a lot that needs to be prayed for these days, and they say the public should take the chance to say a prayer today, even if they might not be the type to go to church regularly.

Today is the first Thursday in May, which is also designated as the annual "National Day of Prayer", and local ministers are hosting a gathering today at noon at the First Baptist Church in downtown Galesburg.

Pastor Leigh Nygard is on the committee organizing the local event, and says because it's supported on local, state, and national levels, the "National Day of Prayer" is extremely important.

Nygard says there are a number of concerns that will be prayed for at the event this year, including our government and the upcoming elections, the military, the media, and teachers, among others.

Galesburg's observance of the National Day of Prayer is normally held at Standish Park, but Nygard says it's been moved to the First Baptist Church this year due to the possibility of inclement weather.
