Report of Residential Burglary Near Knoxville Sends One to Jail

Two men picked the wrong home when they allegedly broke in and were met by a resident armed with a gun.

The Knox County Sheriff's department says deputies responded to a call reporting a burglary in progress at 1350 Knox Road 600 East, located southwest of Knoxville, around 7:45 p-m Monday. Authorities say a resident of the home told them he had one person detained.

Deputies arrested 20-year old Tyrone Thompson of Peoria for residential burglary. He and another man are accused of cutting a screen in the kitchen and entering the home. Police say the resident told them he first heard a knock at a door on the main floor of the house and saw two men he didn't know on the rear deck. The resident reportedly went back downstairs and retrieved a handgun, and he returned to find the two men standing inside his house.

Police say the two suspects ran out the patio door, and the resident fired a warning shot into the ground, which prompted one of the suspects, later identified as Thompson, to stop, while the other suspect continued running. Officials say he has a small build and was wearing a hooded sweatshirt. He has not yet been located by police.

The state police crime scene investigator assisted local authorities at the scene, and the investigation continues.

Thompson's bond was reduced during a hearing Wednesday from $5,000 to $2500, and he'll be in court again May 20th for a preliminary hearing.
