Special Knox County Audits Done
(Updated: 8:45pm) Over a
year later there are finally some results known on the Audits of two
Knox County offices, but whether or not the public will find out what
they are is anyone's guess.

The audits of finances in the State's Attorney and Sheriffs Offices
during a three-year period ending in late-November of 2006 following
allegations of mismanagement against former Sheriff Jim Thompson and
former States Attorney Paul Mangieri were originally requested by the
Knox County Board and last night in a special meeting Committee
Chairman Alan Pickrel updated the 15 member committee.

Pickrel read to the board a letter he crafted himself after meeting
with Ninth Circuit Chief Judge Stephen Mathers. Pickrel tells WGIL the
results should be known by the end of the month in time for the next
scheduled Board meeting. "We are actually just on hold," Pickrel said. "It's all been done, it's been passed on to the appropriate parties, and we don't know anything until the 28th."

That's the deadline the Illinois State Police, the F-B-I and
special prosecutor William Poncin have now that they've received copies
of the results, to ask either to seal them or have a gag order put on
them. The only reason the results will be delayed is if a continued
investigation is requested by one of the three parties. If there's no seal or gag order, and the Knox County Board
receives the results they will have the choice of disclosing them to
the public or not.
