Fire Destroys Galesburg Home

Two people were treated for smoke inhalation after a house fire broke out Thursday morning on Oriole Drive.

A house fire Thursday morning in Galesburg sent two of the home's occupants to the hospital for treatment.

A Galesburg Fire Department spokesperson says firefighters responded to the fire at 1701 Oriole Drive shortly after 7 a-m. Officials say two adults in the home when the fire broke out were treated for smoke inhalation at local hospitals. Nobody else was in the home at the time.

They say the fire broke out in the second story of the home, and had to cut open the roof to help put out what appeared to be two fires, that were under control in about ten minutes.  Fire crews were on the scene for about three hours investigating and making sure there were no more flames.

The home sustained what was described as significant damage and it's not clear whether there was insurance on the home. The spokesman says the investigation is still going on, and a cause has yet to be determined.
