Crash Involving Parked Vehicle Kills Galesburg Woman

One Galesburg woman is dead and another is facing a felony traffic charge following an accident late Friday morning on Allens Avenue.

Galesburg police identified the victim as 75-year old Madge Stancomb, who was sitting in the driver's seat of a vehicle parked in her driveway at 246 Allens Avenue when it was struck around 10:45 a-m.

Authorities are charging 34-year old Lori Mahnesmith of Galesburg with Aggravated Driving Under the Influence Involving a Fatality. Police say she was driving north on Allens Avenue when her vehicle left the road and traveled into the front yard at 246 Allens and struck the driver's side of the vehicle Stancomb was in.

Knox County Coroner Mark Thomas pronounced Stancomb dead at the scene around 11:15 a-m. Police say additional charges against Mahnesmith are pending, and the investigation is ongoing.
