Top Republicans Skeptical of House Speaker's Bill to Rid Government of Former Governors' Appointments
Republicans understand the intent of a plan to rid state government of the appointees of the two previous governors, just not the motivation.

Illinois House Minority Leader Tom Cross (R-Oswego) and Senate Minority Leader Christine Rodogno (R-Lemont) say they have a list of questions about the bill introduced by House Speaker Michael Madigan (D-Chicago) that would force the removal of political appointees from 1999-2009 named by governors George Ryan and Rod Blagojevich.

Cross wants to know why Madigan didn't move years ago to remove Ryan appointees, since Ryan has been gone since 2003. Rodogno wants to know why the bill was introduced this week, giving Governor Pat Quinn 60 days to review appointment to see if he'd like to re-appoint, at the same time as the end of session with a massive budget deficit and negotiations on ethics legislation.

Neither would link their suspicions to the possibility that Madigan's daughter, Attorney General Lisa Madigan, may run for governor against Quinn next year. Both say they have more questions, but hope time will help answer them.
