Passage of Gun Bill Near Approval
A gun rights bill is one vote away from going to the governor's desk. An Illinois Senate committee has given its approval to a gun bill that would allow gun owners to be able to take a gun to other people’s homes, if the gun owner is invited, or to hotels if guns aren't banned by the hotel owner or operator.

Todd Vandermyde of the Illinois State Rifle Association says with respect to laws that allow individuals to possess guns at their home, an appellate court has decided that "home" means only your own home, so he wants to change state law so gun owners have more flexibility.

Jeanne Wrenn, a prosecutor in the Cook County State 's Attorney’s Office, testified in opposition. She says this would lead to police in the Chicago area having a hard time arresting people for gun possession because the gun holders will simply say they're guests. She says that would keep more guns on Chicago streets.

The Senate Criminal Law Committee approved the measure, which now goes to the full Senate. It has already passed in the House.
