New Galesburg School Board Member to be Seated
The Galesburg School District will honor an outgoing school board member, seat a new one, and honor retiring employees.

The District-205 School Board Monday night will welcome new board member Rick Welty. He'll be replacing Mike Nelson on the board, who opted not to seek another term in April's election. Longtime board members Doctor Barry Swanson and Robert Lindstrom ran unopposed for another term on the board as well. All three will receive oaths of office, and according to board policy, Lindstrom will take over for Swanson as board president while the remaining officers will be elected tonight.

The board will host a reception starting at 6:30 p-m Monday for retiring district employees as well, and will make presentations to them as well.

The Galesburg School Board will, among other items, hear a presentation from administrators wrapping up the year-long Lincoln Studies course -- a special program formed to commemorate the 150th anniversary of Lincoln's birth.

Board members also consider purchasing a new bus and creating the position of School Bus Safety Officer.

District officials said it would be cheaper to hire someone to be on staff to fill that position, versus contracting with the Galesburg Police Department.

The Galesburg School Board convenes at 7 p-m at Lincoln School.
