First "First Friday" A Success for Seminary Street
By all accounts, a monthly summer-time event in one of Galesburg's high-traffic areas is already a success.

The Seminary Street Merchants Association held their first official "First Fridays" event Friday. The businesses in the district are staying open late on the first Friday of the month between May and September, and are providing live entertainment, food, and other items, all in the section of the historic street that will be blocked off each of those Fridays.

Co-organizer Rachel Matson-Haynes tells WGIL while the event does help to drum up business in the corridor, it's about much more than that. "We felt that our community needed a place to celebrate our culture and come together as a community," Haynes said. "It just kind of developed into this music, visual arts, demonstrations from artists from the surrounding areas, and our businesses locally wanting to be a part of the whole thing."

Hundreds of people attended and got to sample food, browse the shops, and even help out local charities. To find out information about future "First Fridays," CLICK HERE.
