Not Much Severe Weather in Galesburg Wednesday; One Fatality in Missouri
POSTED 10:57pm 5/13/09 The National Weather Service was only partially right Wednesday -- there was some severe weather in parts of the midwest, just not Galesburg.

A tornado watch was in effect from about 4pm Wednesday afternoon until 10pm Wednesday for most of our listening area -- but, as it turns out, nothing severe happened in Galesburg.

Just before 9pm there was a heavy thunderstorm that did move through the area -- part of a larger complex of storms that went through Iowa, Missouri, and other states. The storm did cause some penny-sized hail and rain that seemingly came down in sheets for a time, reducing visibility. An estimated two inches of rain fell as of 10pm Wednesday according to weather service storm reports.

Storms intensified as they moved east, causing more watches and warnings in other parts of Central, eastern, and northeastern Illinois. There were tornado warnings issued in the Quincy and Hancock County areas, but no reports of any damage, despite a tornado being reported west of Rushville. The system did cause at least one fatality and plenty of damage near Kirksville, Missouri.
