No Projects Started Yet Following Mini-Capital Bill's Passage
Even though a mini state capital plan passed last month, no projects have started across the state. A top IDOT official says that doesn't mean lawmakers have forgotten about it; it's just not ready yet.

IDOT Secretary Gary Hannig says the governor hasn't released the approved list of projects, though that should be coming shortly. He's confident lawmakers will move to pass a bigger capital plan because the mini plan is meant to fix existing structures, and the larger one is meant to invest in new structures.

That's good news to State Sen. Martin Sandoval (D-Chicago), who as recently as a few weeks ago denounced a mini capital plan as a lawmaker ruse to delay or even prevent the passage of a larger capital plan. Now that the miniature version has passed, Sandoval says it's a "sigh of relief" because some projects in his district will finally get some much-needed funding.

The mini capital plan will provide roughly $3 billion of state money that will go toward maintenance of various roads, bridges, mass transit systems and schools across the state
