Road Construction on City Council Agenda Tonight
Some road construction in the City of Galesburg is scheduled to begin next week assuming the Galesburg City Council gives its blessing to it tonight.

The Galesburg City Council this evening is expected to approve a $300,000 bid from Guenther Construction of Galesburg to reconstruct all of Third Street from Pearl to Day Streets. City officials say the work will include the resurfacing of the road in that areas, sidewalk repair and the installation of sidewalk ramps compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act, new storm sewer inlets, and some other curb and gutter work.

The city says if approved, the work would start a week from tomorrow and is required to be done by mid-July.

That's one of two construction projects aldermen will consider tonight. The other, city officials say, is $193,000 worth of work also for Guenther Construction, for an area of McClure Street from north of Coulter Avenue to just south of the railroad underpass. This work will include the reconstruction of the road in concrete, and some drainage culverts that have failed along with the roadway.

City officials say that work will also start next Tuesday and should be done by July 10th.

Aldermen will meet at 6:30 tonight in a closed session -- the open meeting begins at 7:30 in Council Chambers at Galesburg City Hall.
