No Injuries in Fertilizer Truck Fire Near Abingdon
POSTED 7:15 p-m 5/21/09 A man hauling fertilizer in a truck escaped uninjured after the vehicle caught on fire early Thursday evening near Abingdon.

Abingdon firefighters responded to the fire on Knox Road 350 East near the intersection with Knox County Highway 5 about 6:30 p-m.

The driver, Fred Cline of Cline Soil Service, was southbound when the truck loaded with urea - a nitrogen based farm fertilizer - broke out. It appeared the blaze started in the engine compartment of the vehicle.

Firefighters, using water brought in on a pump truck, quickly got the fire under control. A deputy with the Knox County Sheriff's Department also responded. Crews cleared the scene in less than 45 minutes.


A truck driven by Fred Cline of Abingdon is damaged by a fire early Thursday evening on Knox Road 350 East near the intersection with Knox County Highway 5. Cline was hauling urea, a farm field fertilizer, when the fire broke out.


Abingdon firefighters extinguish a truck fire about 6:30 p-m northeast of Abingdon. No injuries were reported.
