Reform Commission's Proposals Voted Down
Friday was billed as the day the Illinois Senate would wrap up ethics reform legislation. Instead it unleashed a firestorm of complaints that the process isn't fair, the justifications are false, and any action is self-serving.

The Illinois Reform Commission proposed a slew of ethics reform ideas nearly a month ago. But Democratic senators said they didn't have enough time to review them, and voted nine of them down in the Senate Executive Committee. The only provision that passed was a last minute proposal by State Sen. Dan Kotowski (D-Park Ridge) to allow prosecutors to go after campaign funds and other assets.

Reform commission chairman Patrick Collins says it's a "shame" that the commission's proposals were voted down, and says this proves the process isn't fair. Commission member David Hoffman went further, saying that perhaps what's going on is that the leadership wants to pass something so that they can tell the citizens that they passed ethics reform.

Commission members hope for a full Senate vote on their report next week.
